Shopping for charity

In the Netherlands I’ve never really seen them, but here in England they seem to be incredibly popular; charity shops. How does it work? Well, the charity has an actual store with book/clothes/general stuff but the staff exists of volunteers so those costs can go to the charity. The stock of the store is made of donation they get. So your old stuff becomes someone else’s new stuff.  I would say that there are three advantages to that: You get rid of the things that you don’t want anymore, you help charity and you make other people happy with the things you give away; you know your old things will get a new home and will be loved again (I’m always happier to give good clothes that I don’t wear anymore away with that knowledge!). The stores have many advantages for the buyer as well: The clothes are very cheap, by buying something you support charity and because the stock keeps being renewed you never know what treasures you may found (last week I found a dress from H&M that I wanted ages ago but that was always sold out in my size everywhere. It was exactly my size and only 1/5 of the price!). This means that this way of shopping will actually make you feel better; you don’t spend a lot of money, you get great stuff and you support charity. I guess looking good can really be combined with feeling good.

XOXO

Just Trippin

No I’m not talking drugs here. I’m talking about actual trips to exciting places. I used to do lots of them when I just moved to Leeds. But somehow I have stopped going places lately. Time to change that! I’ve made a list of all the places I want to go to before I leave Leeds and started booking things. This means I have much excitement to come!

Last Tuesday: Kirkstall Abey
Who: Michele (who was back in Leeds for a couple of days!) and Tim
Why: Michele and I both had never been and so we decided at the spot that we were going to go right then. I love spontaneous trips!
What: We spent hours taking pictures. Of ourselves. But jumping pictures and a minute of one picture every 2 seconds guarantee a lot of fun!
Last Wednesday: Leeds Golden Acre Park
Who: Michele and Tim
Why: It was supposed to be a nice day for a walk outside.
What: We strolled around the park, took some more jumping pictures (in the rain) and had lunch in the tearoom where you were not supposed to consume your own goods. Nice times!
This weekend: Manchester
Who: Just me.
Why: I have a training weekend for my summer job.
What: Probably lots of role playing games and exciting info about this summer. In the evening I will stroll around and have some dinner and I might even make some friends in my hostel if I get bored (although I am supposed to study for the test I have to take on Sunday).

In two weeks: Liverpool
Who: Jessica, who’s visiting from the Netherlands.
Why: We thought it would be more fun to meet in Manchester than for Jessica to come to Leeds again:
What: A Beetles tour, museum, strolling around, going out, food, general good times.

In three weeks: Edinburgh
Who: Well this is a funny one. It was going to be just me. But then I found out that Sara’s sister Leila and her friend will be in Edinburgh on the exact same days as I will be there. And later I found out Michele was planning to travel to Schotland around that time as well and she will pop by. Therefore I take it that it is meant to be for me to go to Edinburgh.
Why: Just because I can.
What: Walking around, sightseeing, deep fried mars bars, going out, lots and lots of fun.
In a month: Cambridge
Who: I’ll be visiting Amie.
Why: I will get to have a personal tour guide.
What: Punting, food, more food, strolling around and chilling out.

In two months: Oxford!
Who: Me and a bunch of international kiddos.
Why: Time for my summer job.
What: Teaching English, more trips, supervising activities, playing games with kids, dancing at the disco (for 12 year olds).

Inbetween I’ll be going home for a week and after I will be doing some nice summer travels. I still feel like I need to go to London for a bit before I move. More planning to do!

XOXO
